Join our team as an expert for verification management for the cotton standards of the Aid by Trade Foundation in Hamburg – initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of permanent employment
The Aid by Trade Foundation brings together various partners from business, politics, science and NGOs with its initiatives Cotton made in Africa® (CmiA), Regenerative Cotton Standard® (RCS) and The Good Cashmere Standard® (GCS) and builds demand alliances for the purchase of sustainably produced raw materials in the spirit of a “social business”.
With its goal to help people help themselves, via trade rather than donations, the initiatives contribute to improving the living and working conditions in cotton-producing countries, animal welfare of cashmere goats, and environmental protection in the respective regions.
The „Standards & Outreach“ (S&O) department is responsible for the further development and review of AbTF’s sustainability standards, for supporting verified partners in 10 African countries, India and Inner Mongolia in China, as well as for monitoring, evaluation, and learning across all standards.
Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the selection and qualification of the commissioned verification bodies and are responsible for the training of auditors
- You are also responsible for the partner management of the „Managing Entities“ (implementing partners currently in various countries south of the Sahara, as well as India) in the planning and execution of verification cycles
- The management and quality monitoring of the verification missions are in your hands
- You coordinate the development and expansion of the cloud-based solution for the verification management – from self-assessments of partners to verification reports to the validation of continuous improvement plans as per the verification cycles
- You prepare annual aggregated verification and implementation reports
- You will work closely with the MEL expert at AbTF on the evaluation of data and results from the verification cycles in order to draw up conclusions for project priorities and other support measures together with the Standards & Outreach team
- You will be involved in the further development of the cotton standards CmiA, CmiA Organic and RCS as well as standard-relevant background documents, position papers, training materials, etc.
- You are responsible for the regular standard revisions
- Further areas of activity include supporting the organisation of workshops and conferences on the Aid by Trade Foundation’s cotton standards
What we look for
Must-have:
- A completed degree in agricultural, natural, social or economic sciences or a comparable qualification & solid professional experience
- Experience with audits and/or with sustainably produced (agricultural) raw materials
- Affinity for numbers and digital solutions
- High intercultural competence
- Fluent German and business-fluent English and at least good French skills (at least B2) are required
- The willingness to travel (suitably for tropical conditions) completes your profile
- Legally alowed to work in Germany

The position is 39 hours per week, with the option to work from home for part of the working hours (2 office days per week). Please note that AbTF cannot sponsor working visas. The position is initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
